UCL: The goal that cost Chelsea’s Champions league exit to Real Madrid

Chelsea are out of the Uefa Champions league after winning the competition last season. A 5-4 aggregate loss to Real Madrid has ensured Thomas Tuchel’s men exit from the competition.

There were lot of goals scored over two legs as Chelsea were close to achieving one of the greatest comebacks in Champions league history up until they lost concentration and let Real Madrid back into the game.

But one goal out of the 9 goals scored in both legs was the most costliest for Chelsea and it was the one Benzema scored in the first leg after Edouard Mendy gifted it to him with a poor pass.

Had Mendy not make that mistake, Chelsea would have qualified especially seeing their performance in the second leg where they went 3-0 up and even if Rodrigo scored that late goal for Madrid, Thomas Tuchel’s men would have still qualified as Chelsea were unarguably the better team over two legs.
