Transfer News: Chelsea to battle Man Utd for Kounde, Ex-Chelsea star wants to return to the club

Published

on

Chelsea have joined Manchester United in the race to sign wantaway Barcelona defender Jules Kounde, reigniting their interest from last summer.

According to Sport, the Blues have rekindled their interest in Kounde after failing to land him last summer at Stamford Bridge which saw the defender join Barcelona for an initial fee of €50 million (£42m/$50m), plus up to €10m (£8.3m/$10.2m) in add-ons in a four-year contract.

However, the London outfit are not only the Premier League side who are interested, as Manchester United have also reportedly set their sights on the French international.

Ex-Chelsea star wants to return to the club

Former Chelsea star Oscar says he still dreams of returning to the club and hopes that it can happen before the end of his career. The Brazilian spent four full seasons with the Blues from 2012-16, making over 200 appearances for the club and winning both the Premier League and Europa League. He left in January 2017 for the Chinese Super League, signing for Shanghai SIPG for £67m and agreeing an enormous deal.

Still only 31 years old, Oscar is still playing in China, winning the Chinese Super League once during his stint there, but does admit that he would love a return to Chelsea at some point.

‘It’s of course a dream to come back to Chelsea,’ the Brazilian told talkSPORT. ‘Everyone knows the passion that I have for this club.

‘I have a lot of good memories from there… I still have dreams to play for this team. So if I can come back to Europe or to Chelsea, then hopefully we can talk.’

Lopetegui: I’m not asking for massive signings

Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui admits he is not asking for much as he continues talks over the club’s transfer plans – and his own future.

Lopetegui’s future at Molineux is now uncertain amid being frustrated with the club’s inability to commit funds to the next transfer market without selling players first – most likely involving at least one of their key assets such as Ruben Neves. It is understood a number of meetings have already taken place between Lopetegui and the Wolves hierarchy and those will continue before and after their final game of the season against Arsenal on Sunday.

“Now is the moment to talk, now is the moment to discuss, now is the moment to take a decision, not after one or two months – it is now,” Lopetegui said.

“It’s about not how much, but about what players we are going to have. I am not asking for incredible signings from Real Madrid or Barcelona. I am thinking of signing good players, young players, maybe Championship players, I don’t know.

“This is the more important thing, the names of the players. And another very important thing for me as a coach is that in the start of July we have a squad ready to work.”

Bloom: Brighton will cope if we lose players

Brighton owner Tony Bloom says he is not worried about the club’s improvement next season if they lose a couple of star players.

Manager Roberto De Zerbi admitted to Sky Sports earlier this month that the club could lose Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister in the summer window.

“We’ll be able to compete on all levels next season even if we lose a couple of our star players,” Bloom told talkSPORT.

“That happens at almost every club, we don’t worry about these things and as long as we get the right price for our players they will sometimes go. That happens across the board, we’re not at all worried about that and we look to come back stronger next season.”
