How Chelsea Landing De Jong Could Force Conor Gallagher Out on Loan

If Chelsea is successful in signing Frenkie de Jong this summer, Conor Gallagher may be loaned out once again. During his time on loan at Crystal Palacelast season, the academy graduate made a big impression. It’s possible that the arrival of the Dutchman may hurt his chances of getting significant playing time. It appears that Chelsea is ready to pounce on Manchester United’s long-time aim this summer. The Blues hope to take advantage of the fact that the Dutch midfielder is hesitant to join the Manchester side. There could be a cost, though.

As far as loan deals go, Palace is ‘confident’ that they have the upper hand in re-signing Gallagher. Although West Ham United and Newcastle United are also interested in the 22-year-old, they may have competition this time. The England international played in 39 games for the Eagles last year, contributing to eight goals and five assists. His strong play won him a spot on the national team, where he continued to excel. He was therefore expected to make an appearance for Chelsea this year.

Thomas Tuchel has given him a roster spot in the preseason. The 22-year-old showed promise in the preseason and was named to the Blues’ matchday roster for both Premier League contests. However, getting on the field has been a challenge. The midfielder has played only six minutes of football thus far, coming off the bench in both games.

The Englishman’s playing time may be reduced if De Jong arrives from Barcelona. There would be a further social downgrade for him. It would benefit everyone involved to take out a loan. The player is excited to play at Selhurst Park again after being crowned the league’s top performer in the previous campaig

His decision will ultimately rest with the player, although his previous loan experience may be a deciding factor. Any team that signs Gallagher is expected to provide him significant playing time. His goal is to be selected for the England team for the upcoming World Cup in November. It’s all moot unless Chelsea signs Frenkie de Jong. If they are unable to, Gallagher will likely remain with Tuchel’s squad and continue to compete for his starting spot. For the next two weeks, the transfer window is open, so we’ll get to watch what happens with both players.
