How Chelsea could line up with Fofana and Aubameyang

Chelsea have been active in the summer transfer window, with four new players joining the club and more on the way as they look to close the gap on Manchester City and Liverpool.

Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Marc Cucurella, and Carney Chukwuemeka have already joined Thomas Tuchel’s squad.

Despite this, the west London club is in talks with Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana and Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

If both sign, manager Thomas Tuchel will have the talent he needs to compete on all fronts in the 2022-23 season.

Here’s how the Blues might line up:

Chelsea should stick with their tried-and-true 5-2-3 formation, which Tuchel has used frequently since taking over the club in January 2021.

Edouard Mendy will remain in goal, with Kepa Arrizabalaga and Marcus Bettinelli providing no real competition.

The most significant changes will be made in the back line, with Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana replacing Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

Thiago Silva will remain in the middle of the back three, hoping to maintain his form at the age of 37.

Marc Cucurella, who joined from Brighton for £62 million, could be the left wing-back. Ben Chilwell would be unlucky not to be selected.

Reece James, who was excellent last season, will keep his spot on the right.

In midfield, Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante could be preferred, with Jorginho and Conor Gallagher ready to step in when needed.

New signing Sterling will start on the left flank, looking to provide the same offensive threat he did at Manchester City.

Mason Mount will play on the right flank, with Aubameyang leading the charge.
