With the imminent arrival of N’Golo Kante to Chelsea’s starting lineup, Graham Potter might have to consider changing his formation to accommodate the French Midfielder alongside Mateo Kovacic and Enzo Fernandez.

Enzo Fernandez has started all the games that he’s available to play since Chelsea signed him on the deadline day of the January transfer window. The 22-year-old Midfielder hasn’t missed any game since his arrival from Benfica for a fee of £106.8million.

During his time at Chelsea, he has played with Conor Gallagher and Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the Midfield but, it was his partnership with Mateo Kovacic that proved to be the most prolific as Chelsea have won 3 out of the 4 games that Mateo Kovacic and Enzo Fernandez have started together in the midfield.

With Enzo Fernandez and Mateo Kovacic now considered untouchable in Chelsea’s starting lineup right now, N’Golo Kante’s return to the starting lineup will necessitate a tweak in the formation. Chelsea will have to switch to 4-3-3 formation or 4-5-1 formation.

In the 4-3-3 formation, Reece James, Marc Cucurella will play in the Fullback positions while Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile will start in the Centre-back position. N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Enzo Fernandez will start in the Midfield while Christian Pulisic, Raheem Sterling and Joao Felix will lead the attack.

In the 4-5-1 formation, Reece James, Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile and Marc Cucurella could start in the Defense. Enzo Fernandez and N’Golo Kante will play in the Defensive Midfield position. Mateo Kovacic will play in front of the duo as an attacking Midfielder with Christian Pulisic and Raheem Sterling as Wide Wingers while Kai Havertz plays as a False 9.
