CHE Vs LIV: The Player that could be the Key to Chelsea’s Victory against Liverpool on Sunday

Chelsea will be hoping to win their third title this season, and their first major domestic title under Thomas Tuchel, when they take on Liverpool in the EFL Cup Final on Sunday evening at Wembley Stadium.

Coming off the back of a great performance against Lille in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 at Stamford Bridge last Tuesday, Thomas Tuchel has a full Squad to select from, excluding Ben Chilwell who has been ruled out for the rest of this season.

Both Hakim Ziyech and Mateo Kovavic who were fantastic against Lille on Tuesday walked off the pitch over Injury scare but the in-form duo are fit to start against Liverpool.

Chelsea have also been boosted with the return of Reece James who has also returned to training after he suffer an hamstring Injury against Brighton and Hove Albion in December.

Despite the full presence of the squad, the player that could hold the key to the success of the Blues in the Carabao Cup Final against Liverpool is Jorginho.

The 30-year-old Italian Midfielder has been an irregular face in Chelsea lineup in recent games. He has started just 2 out of Chelsea’s last 4 games across all competitions.

Speaking in a Pre-match press conference on Friday, Thomas Tuchel explained the reason why Jorginho has not been starting in recent games. He said: “Jorginho did not play so much from the beginning lately because we feel him a bit tired, a bit mentally tired.”

Despite not featuring in Chelsea’s win against Lille on Tuesday, Jorginho’s style of play could be vital to the outcome of the game against Liverpool. Both Mateo Kovavic and N’Golo Kante that started against Lille did more attacking work than defending.

Lille was supposed to exploits this glaring weakness and get goals against Chelsea through counterattacks but their Attackers were clueless about what to do with the ball.

Unlike N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovavic who both have tendency to gallop to the front and contribute to the attack, Jorginho sits back at home and prefer to dictate the play from the back. This could help Chelsea from conceding goals through counterattacks against the Reds.
