Chelsea won their second corner of the match in the 16th minute but couldn’t score from it. The Blues continued to dominate the game as Salzburg sat deep in their half as they plan to hit Chelsea on a counter-attack.
After the opening 20 minutes, Chelsea continued to press for the first goal of the game but could not do enough to beat Salzburg’s defense. The away side kept searching for their first goal-scoring opportunity of the game as they could not trouble Chelsea’s defense. Mount had a glorious chance to put his team in front in the 39th minute but played his effort off target. Salzburg got their first shot on target in the 40th minute but Chelsea’s goalkeeper was there to make a good save. Chelsea was denied a penalty in the 45+2 minute after a handball incident. The first 45 minutes ended with no goal for both sides.
